Council Election Time in Dunedin soon

Well its the local council election time soon in Dunedin City. I feel it is important that every goes out and uses their right to vote.

This is a important time for the future direction of Dunedin.

Voting is important and im not one to say how anyone should vote but it is important that everyone does vote.

No to Mcdonalds Restaurants next to houses

This is a issue that many people may not know about but Mcdonalds in New Zealand is they are trying to build some of their 30 new Mcdonald's Restaurants next to Residential Houses throughout New Zealand.

So far their are fights against Mcdonalds plans in Balmoral Auckland , Queenstown , Mosgiel to name a few.

Something that people dont understand is that most of the people against it are only against it going next to Residential Propertys not going in at the town. Why cant Mcdonalds "a company that made over 20 Million in Profit last year" find suitable locations that are not right next to peoples Residential propertys?

In a effort in which I think is to save money they are buying right next to houses. Is the amount they save out weight the amount they have to spend fighting to put their new Fast Food Restaurants right next to houses?

Now for some that argue including Mcdonalds the jobs that will be created by Mcdonalds. Which in my mind is ok but why should be at the expense of residential property owners. Lets look at how Mcdonalds are getting funding for some of their new jobs that they create please see the link below

Could this by why Mcdonalds have been granted approval for their no complying activity at many cities around the country incl Mosgiel Dunedin? Granted by the Dunedin City Council.

(update 25th March 2010 ) as far as I am aware heavy equipment is in Hartstonge Ave to reseal the road. This equipment is not working on the proposed Mcdonalds mosgiel site.
No building has commenced as yet on any Mcdonalds Restaurant in Hartstonge ave and Mcdonalds have not laid any appeal on any or the 17 or 18 conditions on their resouce consent.
(update 14th April) Roading work is completed on Hartstonge Ave Mosgiel and all roading equipment is gone from the section of the proposed Mcdonalds Mosgiel site.
(update 27th April) Still no sign of any Mcdonalds on the Hartstonge Ave Mosgiel site. After such a effort and campaign they have lodged to get it there you would think they would want to build their Mcdonalds Straight away?
